Merry Christmas!

We hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas day. Life was certainly joyful and blessed here in Korea. Thankfully, all of the kids' packages came in, though the final one was Sunday afternoon. With the slow shipping times, this time of year, the mailrooms were open for any packages arriving over the weekend. We invited our "nanny" over for Christmas morning. She is from the Phillipines, away from her family. I've attached a few pictures and will hopefully blog more soon...

The post will have a 5K race about once a month. About six weeks ago, Nate mentioned that he wanted to participate in one. So today, the two of us signed up and gave it a whirl. Our goal was to finish and not quit, since Nate had never tried anything like this before. Combining some jogging, fast walking, and a dash at the end, Nate finished in 41:46. He was happy he finished before his mother and that we were not the last two across the line. We both received a shirt and actually won a $13 gift certificate in a drawing. I am so proud of how he stuck with it, even with the standard aches and pains. He is now trying to convince me to allow him to run in the New Year's Eve 5K that starts at midnight! Love, Mona

It has been quite some time since our last blog. Where Christmas preparation never really started before now in the States, we are in full swing already. The true mess of shopping took place after Thanksgiving. I told Chip I saved us lots of money this year - by misplacing my ID! You can't get into any store without it....and can't get back on post, if I wished to go off and check out the Korean stores. So I spent four days not spending. :) But we were able to have a nice Thanksgiving dinner....

As mentioned, I did get a hair cut. While it is much easier in the field to have short hair, I have since learned that I now have to style my hair every day. Before, I could just throw it into a ponytail/braid. My soldiers think I look like an older version of Rogue, from X-Men, with the gray streak...hopefully not due to draining the life out of them!

The Boy Scouts sold live trees here, but only the past two weekends. Normally, we don't get ours until a week before Christmas. I hope this one will last until New Year's! The smell of pine is absolutely wonderful. We have been playing the Cinnamon Bear episodes for the kids. During the beginning and ending music, our tradition has been to dance around in a circle. This year, Joey is learning just how crazy we are.

I hope to post a little more often...of course, with Christmas coming, I can't make any promises. We love you all and hope that you are enjoying your families during this wonderful time of year! Love, Mona
